STORM #17 is a series of three prints created using a digital moiré technique: where the overlapping of two images creates the illusion of a third image. Alongside the use of digital moiré, each image is created through early computer imaging processes, using a limited colour palette (black, white and 4 shades of grey) and hard-edged pixel patterns. STORM #17 is part of a body of work where the artist recalls hostile weather conditions (rainstorm, wind, ice storm) through abstraction, computer graphics and digital animation. The three images are composed as a sequence, suggesting motion through the triptych.

Nicolas Sassoon makes use of early computer imaging techniques to render visions of architectures, landscapes and natural forces. Sassoon’s practice translates ideas of materiality and immateriality into digital animations, installations, prints, and sculptures. His work explores the contemplative and projective dimensions of screen-based space, and how the digital image can express dimensions of the physical realm. Read more
