Bertrand Planes’ Louis XIV showed at the “YES I CAN, The Portrait of Power” exhibition at the Centre D’art Contemporain Walter Benjamin, Perpignan

Bertrand Planes‘ artwork Portrait_de_Louis_XIV_en_costume_de_sacre.jpg will be part of the exhibition “YES I CAN, The Portrait of Power” at the Centre d’Art Contemporain Walter Benjamin of Perpignan, from June, the 25th to October, the 16th.

The Portrait of Louis XIV in Coronation Robes by Rigaud had been a turning point in the representation of power. In this incredible painting the Sun King represents all possible symbols of its power. At the same time, in this strange picture, everything seems composite and built. For its summer exhibition, the Hyacinthe Rigaud Art Museum intends to question the notion of power starting from this artwork. How do artists face today the political notions of money and power? To what extent, with what ambiguities? What deference or otherwise what criticism?

In order to answer these questions, Bertrand Planes have set up a scale reproduction of the iconic painting realized by Hyacinte Riguaud, only using information and images found on the internet that he later sent to a China-based atelier.
