Open since June 18th, the exhibition The Art of Banksy is presented at the Beurs van Berlage (Amsterdam) until September 30th, 2016. Steve Lazarides, the curator and former agent of English street artist Banksy, gathered more than 85 artworks : paintings, sculptures and interactive installations illustrating different artistic periods.
Banksy’s urban interventions have made him one of the most famous names of street art, paradoxically maintained by an identity that he managed to keep mysterious and unrevealed even today. A satirical dimension characterizes Banksy’s art, always very much in touch with the political state of the world. One of the artist’s recent intervention was in London opposite the French Embassy, facing the institution with an image inspired by the poster for the musical Les Misérables in which was pictured a girl crying from the effects of tear gas – a condemnation of the actions of the French police in the refugee camp in Calais (France).
The exhibition is only presenting pieces from private collection and the curator’s one ; a unique occasion to discover them.
